Wonder Boy
Wonder Boy, and what a bat it is!

Wonder boy is the famed bat belonging to Roy Hobbs from the movie The Natural, arguably the best baseball movie ever made.

A young Roy Hobbs watches from his bedroom window as lightning fells a massive oak tree in his yard. Years earlier, Roy's father had suffered a fatal heart attack at the base of this very tree. The next morning Roy takes his axe to one of the fallen limbs, cutting a strip of wood that he carefully crafts into his baseball bat one that becomes his lifelong companion. As a finishing touch, he inscribes the words "Wonder Boy" across the wood and adds a bolt of lighting as his personal insignia.

The bat shown here is a reproduction made by a member of The Fedora Lounge.

Bats in the old days were made of various woods, but now days are made of ash. Once the bat got here, I got the ole wood burning set out from when I was a kid and went to work on the bat! Simple as that...."
